A priest once offered a nun a ride to her convent after a long day. During the journey, they talked about their work, responsibilities, and everyday challenges. As they approached the convent, the nun suddenly said, “Father, remember Psalm 129.” The priest nodded, assuming she was reminding him of an important biblical lesson. A few moments later, she repeated the same words, leaving him even more curious about what she meant.

After dropping her off, the priest returned to the church and continued thinking about the unusual reminder. He decided to look up Psalm 129 himself, hoping to understand why the nun had mentioned it twice. When he read the passage, he was surprised by its wording and suddenly realized that he had misunderstood the situation. What he had interpreted as a serious message had a much simpler explanation.

The priest laughed when he understood what had happened. The humor came from the misunderstanding rather than from the passage itself. The nun had simply remembered the verse and mentioned it during their conversation, while the priest spent the rest of the journey assuming that her words carried a deeper meaning.

The story offers a simple reminder about communication. When someone says something that seems unusual or unclear, it can be easy to create an explanation without knowing what they actually mean. Sometimes, asking a straightforward question can prevent unnecessary confusion. In this case, the priest learned that lesson after spending time searching for an answer that could have been clarified with a simple conversation.
