Nine-year-old Caleb carried his late father Danny’s photograph everywhere. Danny, a Navy corpsman, died saving two Marines in Afghanistan in 2019.

Caleb’s school prohibited grandfathers from attending its Father-Son Breakfast. His grandfather, Frank Halloran, an eighty-one-year-old retired Navy chief, refused to leave him excluded.

Admiral James Carrick recognized Frank immediately. In 1972, Frank had rescued him during an aircraft carrier fire, guiding the frightened young sailor toward safety.

The admiral saluted Frank, publicly recounting his bravery. He honored Danny’s sacrifice and declared that devoted caregivers deserved recognition regardless of biological relationships.
