Dean preferred staying away from fame, appearing publicly only a few times throughout their marriage. Dolly often said their relationship remained strong because she kept her career separate from their private life. She respected that Carl had chosen to love her, but had never chosen the entertainment industry. She spoke warmly about him, describing him as supportive, understanding, and never jealous of her success. Dolly said they loved doing \u201clittle things together,\u201d including taking their RV around Tennessee and Kentucky, stopping at restaurants, sightseeing, and staying in comfortable motels. Despite her immense success, she valued these peaceful moments with her husband. For their 55th anniversary, they reportedly stayed home and enjoyed chicken and dumplings that Dolly prepared, followed by Carl\u2019s favorite pecan ice cream at their gazebo.
