Kyle Francis Kennedy, granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, died at 42 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts, according to reports published in October. Born in Washington, D.C., to Michael Kennedy and Victoria Denise Gifford, she grew up in Massachusetts. Her father died in a skiing accident during her teenage years.
Kennedy attended Milton Academy and studied history at Georgetown University, including a semester in Florence, Italy. She later taught in New York City through Teach For America and earned graduate degrees from Pace University and Harvard University. Her professional career focused on curriculum development, teacher coaching, and improving educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.
In 2012, she married Liam Kerr. They welcomed twins Conor and Josephine, although Josephine died shortly after birth, and later welcomed their son Declan. An enthusiastic athlete, Kennedy completed the Boston Marathon in 2019, surpassing her late father’s recorded finishing time. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with family.
A severe spinal cord injury in 2020 resulted in lasting paralysis. Kennedy subsequently advocated for disability rights and equitable medical treatment, including testimony at the Massachusetts State House. Her cause of death had not been publicly confirmed, and funeral services were private. Family and friends remember her intelligence, humor, determination, and commitment to helping others.
