A vehicle crash at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, on October 17, 2026, reportedly claimed two lives and injured ten others. The victims were identified as six-year-old Cole Adrian and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer, both from McPherson. Five children and five adults were among those injured when a Chevrolet pickup entered a crowded soccer field.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after 3:25 p.m. as spectators assisted injured individuals. Nearby sporting events, including the Kansas girls’ flag football championship, were suspended. Police interviewed more than 30 witnesses and requested photographs and recordings to help reconstruct the incident.
Authorities identified the driver as a 34-year-old woman from Garden City whose two children were passengers. She cooperated with investigators and was released without charges on October 18 following consultation with prosecutors. Toxicology results and a mechanical inspection remained pending, and police had not established the cause of the crash.
Community organizations organized support for affected families, including Schafer’s wife, Ashley, and their children. Officials expressed condolences and encouraged residents to respect the families’ privacy. The sports complex resumed operations on October 19, although the emotional impact remained significant. As investigators continued gathering evidence, the community focused on remembering Cole and Nicholas, supporting injured survivors, and helping young witnesses recover.
