Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain recently shared an unexpected story about declining an invitation to play golf with Donald Trump. Despite being an enthusiastic golfer who has enjoyed the sport for years while living in Florida, the British musician decided against participating because of his personal views.
Speaking with The Telegraph while discussing his autobiography, Hello Boys and Girls!, McBrain explained that a Republican-supporting friend had invited him to join a round of golf with Trump. The drummer recalled immediately declining the opportunity, explaining that his political opinions influenced his decision. Although he does not generally consider himself heavily involved in politics, he expressed criticism of Trump and discussed broader political concerns.
Beyond his opinions, McBrain remains passionate about several activities outside music. He enjoys snooker and has attended the World Snooker Championship at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre. His golfing connections include Iron Maiden guitarist Dave Murray and Swedish professional golfer Jesper Parnevik, reflecting his longstanding enthusiasm for the sport.
McBrain’s autobiography also explores his extensive musical career and personal experiences. After experiencing a stroke in 2023, he returned to performing before announcing his retirement from touring with Iron Maiden in 2024. His story reflects a musician whose interests, friendships, experiences, and personal convictions extend far beyond his achievements onstage.
