Search Efforts Continue in Tucson as Investigation Into Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance Advances

Posted on March 16, 2026 By admin

Authorities in Tucson are continuing an active investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing from her home on January 31, 2026. Law enforcement officials confirmed that her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, voluntarily participated in an extended interview as part of the standard process of gathering information. Officials emphasized that he has not been arrested and is not facing charges, noting that speaking with family members and individuals close to a case is a common step when establishing an accurate timeline.

According to investigators, Nancy was last seen after sharing dinner with her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and Tommaso Cioni. Reports indicate that Cioni drove her home at around 9:45 p.m. and saw her enter the residence. Concern arose the following morning when she did not attend her usual church service and failed to respond to phone calls. Deputies who arrived at the home noticed details near the entrance that required closer examination, prompting further investigative actions.

As the inquiry continued, authorities stated that a security camera at the property had been disconnected. Forensic testing later confirmed that blood found on the porch belonged to Nancy. Because of these findings, investigators expanded the scope of the case to include the possibility that she may have been taken from the area. Data from her medical alert device also indicated a disruption in communication shortly after 2:00 a.m. on February 1. Federal partners, including the FBI, joined local agencies to assist with evidence review and analysis.

The investigation has also included fraudulent ransom messages that were sent during the search, leading to the arrest of an unrelated individual accused of attempting to exploit the situation. Meanwhile, search operations remain active in the Catalina Foothills area with support from specialized teams, aerial resources, and coordinated ground searches. The FBI has announced a reward of $50,000 for information that could assist the investigation. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with reliable information to contact official law enforcement channels as efforts to locate Nancy Guthrie continue.
