Wheel of Fortune Bonus Round Leaves Viewers Talking After a Remarkably Close Finish

Sarah LaPilusa’s Last-Second Wheel of Fortune Win

A closely contested episode of Wheel of Fortune ended with a dramatic Bonus Round when contestant Sarah LaPilusa corrected her answer

just before time expired. The ruling awarded her a $40,000 bonus and brought her total winnings to $55,050.

LaPilusa competed against Jimmy Holgerson and Yolanda Tillet in a competitive game. She finished the main game with $15,050,

narrowly ahead of Tillet, who had $13,500. The close scores made the Bonus Round especially important.

The Bonus Round category was People. With the puzzle letters revealed, LaPilusa had only seconds to identify the phrase.

Under pressure, she gave an initial response that did not completely match the puzzle.

Instead of stopping, LaPilusa continued thinking and quickly reconsidered the letters. At the very end of the countdown, she changed her response to “Fussy babies.” The timing immediately became the focus of the moment.

Because the correction came so close to the buzzer, the judges reviewed the recording to determine whether her complete answer had been given before time expired.

The question was not whether she had been close, but whether the accepted phrase was completed in time.

After reviewing the timing, the judges ruled that LaPilusa’s answer was valid. That decision awarded her the $40,000 Bonus Round prize,

adding significantly to the $15,050 she had already earned during the game.

The result also highlighted how important persistence can be under pressure. Had LaPilusa stopped after her first attempt,

she would have lost the opportunity. Instead, she kept working through the puzzle and found the correct phrase in the final seconds.

In the end, LaPilusa left with $55,050, turning a close game into a memorable victory. The last-second correction created plenty of debate among viewers, but the official review settled the question: “Fussy babies” counted, and LaPilusa got the prize.
