One of his best-known roles came on Sanford and Son, where he portrayed Officer Smitty in the influential sitcom created by Norman Lear and starring Redd Foxx.
Williams later reached an even wider television audience through 227, where he played Lester Jenkins, the husband of Mary Jenkins, portrayed by Marla Gibbs. The sitcom explored neighborhood relationships, family, friendship, and everyday experiences. His other credits included appearances in The Waltons, The Jeffersons, The Sinbad Show, and many additional television and film projects, demonstrating his versatility.
