A tragic aviation accident in Florida claimed nine lives, including a family of four, their nanny, and flight crew members. Among the victims were pilot Jeff Gregory, 55, and co-pilot Nathalia, 20.
The Learjet 60 was traveling from Austin, Texas, to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when an emergency reportedly developed during the flight.
Around 12:50 p.m. Sunday, the aircraft reportedly descended rapidly before crashing onto a Florida highway. The impact caused a large fire, prompting an emergency response.
Flight information indicated a sharp right turn followed by a descent from approximately 35,250 feet to 8,750 feet in just over a minute.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating flight data, weather conditions, aircraft components, and pilot communications. Preliminary observations raised questions about possible structural damage, but no cause has been confirmed.
Gregory, remembered for his lifelong passion for aviation, previously worked with East Coast Jets. Friends described him as dependable and dedicated. He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, and three children.
Reports also suggested Gregory recited part of the Lord’s Prayer during the emergency. However, the reported communication does not establish what caused the accident.
Investigators continue examining evidence to determine what happened and identify potential aviation safety lessons. Meanwhile, families and communities mourn the nine victims and await official answers.
