Block paving is a method used mainly to create temporary pavements or hardstandings that can help in keeping a surface clean and without damage. This method is mainly preferred to keep the surface area unharmed and is used for pavements, patios, driveways and road surfaces.
The entire process of block paving does not require any construction work. The bricks are made of concrete clay and a composite material which is a mixture of sand, stone, and cement. The clay bricks are baked well in the kiln and made hard to be used for longer duration. Bricks used in forming the block paving are also made of crushed glass and even the building material which is crushed before mixing.
The different block paving patterns are:
- Herringbone pattern: It is the most common block paving pattern and is considered to be the strongest among all different patterns. It is long-lasting and is highly preferred for driveways and road surfacing. The pattern is made by placing the block either 45 degrees or 90 degrees.
- Stretcher bond pattern: While this pattern is not as strong as a Herringbone pattern, it is mainly preferred for light-weight vehicles to move on its surface.
