Mermaid Tail Succulents Are a Thing and They’re Magical

According to Gardenia, the magical plant — officially known as Crested Senecio Vitalis — resembles a mix of succulents and cacti, and grows outward rather than towards a light source like most plants. It typically grows one to two feet in height and can reach three to five feet in width, giving it the appearance of a mermaid or whale tail. The plant’s bluish-green color makes it a great addition to any neutral-colored or marine-themed room.

The Crested Senecio Vitalis is native to the Cape of South Africa. This means that it grows in winter and is dormant in summer, which is not the case with most succulents. The plant is super easy to care for and requires little water and maintenance. It grows in sun or light shade and prefers sand or well-drained soil. In addition, it is extremely resistant to drought. It can survive long periods of drought, making it the ideal complement for the forgetful caretaker.
