DIY Grass Bed Offers a Cozy Green Oasis

Many people love to relax on the grass and enjoy the warm sun. But what if your garden is made of concrete? With this in mind, Jason Hodges, landscape gardener on the Australian television show Better Homes & Gardens, came up with a clever solution. He shows how to add some greenery to the sidewalk by building a daybed out of grass. Equipped with pillows and a headboard, the lounger is a great place to soak up the sun and read a good book.

The DIY shows you how to build your bed from start to finish. Hodges begins construction of the frame, which includes assembling a wooden pallet and a slatted headboard. He then covers the subsurface with geomaterial and fills it with soil and fertilizer. The turf is then rolled onto the freshly laid ground. Once the “mattress” is complete, Hodges adds accessories to the outdoor furniture piece—the headboard conveniently doubles as a planter, allowing him to place decorative greenery into the vertical panel. Now all you have to do is cut the grass, put up the cushions and – most importantly – lie down and enjoy! Watch the entire process in the short video below.
