Scandi Living Rooms To Inspire Your Next Interior Project

At the first sign of cooler weather, our homes go into a sort of hibernation. Out with the thick knit blanket and candles. We surround ourselves with more light and greenery to compensate for the dwindling daylight hours and the bare trees outside our window. And of course, we also retreat to one of the coziest places in the house: the living room.

If you’re looking for tips on how to make a room cozier, look no further than Scandinavia—the part of the world made up of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. The tenets of Scandinavian design are largely intuitive. Scandinavians create light, airy spaces to counteract the long, dark days of winter. Everything is completely white, but their palette also includes tan, gray, and black (you’ll occasionally see accents of blue, pink, or green). Scandinavians also favor design elements that are rooted in nature—think hardwood floors, faux fur blankets and rugs, and lots of light wood accents made from beech, ash, or pine. In general, the rooms are minimalist with clean lines and no clutter.
