Unique DIY Planters that You Will Love for your Garden

I love unique garden ideas that give new life to old items as a unique focal point among plants and trees.

The key to success with recycled metal, wood, glass or stone items is to ensure they can withstand the weather conditions in your garden year-round.

Metal and stone obviously last longer than wood, but wooden items like old kitchen chairs can also have a long second life if protected with the right exterior paint and sealant.

If you’re into rust or a rustic patina, this is even easier.

Check out these photos from home garden tours. I hope you find inspiration to adapt the things you have on hand and create unique plantings of your own.

I’m always looking for creative planter ideas. I find them on walks around my neighborhood, on garden tours, at botanical gardens, and even at some of my local nurseries. In addition to the endless selection of foliage and flowers, the containers themselves can add to the look – or fade into the background, allowing the plants to take all the attention. It all depends on the look you are going for.

I definitely look forward to putting together my own planters every spring.I love having at least one standout bloom in my containers. It could be a flowering plant that spills over the sides of the pot like a calibrachoa or supertunia (in a bright shade), a showy plant like a dahlia or a petunia with a really interesting face.
