Stone Wall Fish Camp is a complex of lake homes on the edge of Lake Martin in Alabama. Designed by Jeffrey Dungan Architects in a rustic style, their design seeks to capture and maximize the calm and relaxing atmosphere that defines this entire area.
The topography and views served as sources of inspiration for the interior and exterior design of each lake house. We are particularly interested in the interiors, more specifically the wooden wall panels that have been used here to create a rustic and warm atmosphere. All this wood looks beautiful in combination with stone and metal.

This rustic home from Jackson, Wyoming has a very interesting history. The exterior is made of stone reclaimed from a former Hutterite dairy and milking station from the 1860s and 1880s. The structure was dismantled and then relocated here where JLF Architects collaborated with Big D Signature to create this rather charming home. The weathered stones give it a lot of character and the wooden walls give the interior a very cozy atmosphere.

Lazy Heart Ranch is a beautiful and welcoming residence in Bozeman, Montana. There’s a lot we like about it, from its location on the site, its orientation and the fact that it makes the most of the views and landscape that surrounds it.
The ranch was designed by Brechbuhler Architects, who used a palette of simple and pure materials to connect the structure with the surroundings and create a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. A flagstone walkway leads to the entrance and inside you can see that a lot of wood has been used everywhere, including on the walls. Reclaimed wood and barn wood are used in a variety of ways and give the rooms a lot of character.

Of course, not only rustic interiors are capable of giving wooden walls a charming look. Although not as common, wood paneled walls can also look great in modern and contemporary spaces. An example is a villa in Nantong, China, which features a children’s bedroom with a unique wraparound wooden accent wall with integrated lighting. The wood covers the wall and part of the ceiling, creating a beautiful background for the bed. The whole thing was done by PRISM Design.

A somewhat similar design strategy was used by OM Architecture for the bedroom of this modern residence in Kiev, Ukraine. The idea here was to create an interior design reminiscent of a chalet and to achieve this, the designers incorporated a wooden wall in the master bedroom. The structure actually covers part of the floor and wall and serves as a kind of frame for the bed (platform and headboard).

Wooden walls look great when you highlight them with LED lights. This can be seen in the design that Archiplastica created for this stylish and modern bedroom. The geometric accent wall is the centerpiece of the entire room. It is covered with wooden panels of different shapes and proportions and the lines between them are visible thanks to the hidden LED lighting system.

When remodeling an apartment in Montreal, designer Anne Sophie Goneau faced challenges with the existing structure and appearance of the space, so the decision was made to demolish some of the buildings. This helped expose the brick walls and steel elements, which was exactly what the designer wanted.
This helped revive the building’s original 1887 architecture and gave the apartment an authentic yet modern look. Wooden walls like this were introduced to balance the raw concrete, steel and white surfaces.

Ant Farm House definitely has an unusual name. The inspiration for this came from the new organization and proportions of the rooms. The architects of the house.
The new interior therefore features a series of small and narrow vertical spaces reminiscent of the paths in an ant colony, hence the name. Instead of trying to hide the narrowness and unusual height of these spaces, the architects decided to highlight them with cool design elements like this wooden wall.

The particularly cool use of wood on walls and ceilings is evident in the design of the Ahmanson Founders Room, a space on the first level of the Music Center in LA’s underground parking garage.
It was designed by Belzberg Architects and the main aim of the project was to create a warm and relaxing space on event evenings, connected to the music center’s communal areas. For the sculptural wall and ceiling panels, the architects used Douglas fir and fiberboard, creating hole patterns that give the space a sophisticated look.

This is mainly because wood was used for all of these surfaces. Although there are some differences between the wood paneled walls and anything else made of wood, they are small and insignificant.

Sometimes it’s okay to limit the use of wood to a single part of a wall, such as the surround of a traditional fireplace. This strategy was used in this living room by Bardes Interiors and the result is quite charming. The wood color is nice and somewhat neutral, the sconces are small and delicate, and the fireplace has a fairly simple frame.

In this home office, the use of wood on the walls helps create a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere without making the space feel small and claustrophobic. The large windows certainly help. The entire color palette revolves around brown tones and the lighting is also very cozy.
