How to prevent house fires

A fire can destroy your home much faster than you think. If you are lucky, all you have to do is have you and your family alive. The The alternative should not be considered.

However, this is exactly what you have to do. If you think about the risk of fire, you can take measures to prevent a fire, and we all know that Prevention is better than healing.

Test your smoke alarm

You should have smoke detectors on your house, they save lives. But they are only good when they work. That means testing them weekly and replacing the batteries if necessary.

When the alarm goes off, you know you have a problem that needs to be investigated, whether it’s burnt toast or a real fire.

Electrical inspections

Many house fires are the result of a short circuit in your electrical system. You can reduce the risk of short circuits by pulling the power plug before going out or going to bed. However, this does not solve any wiring problem in the walls.

It’s a good idea to have an annual electrical inspection to make sure your wiring is safe.

Use smoke curtains

Smoke curtains can be used to separate part of your home that contains the smoke. This can be helpful when you only have one exit point. The smoke curtain contains the smoke and promotes the smoke smoke detector off you go. This gives you extra time to escape.

Alternatively, smoke curtains and shutters can be attached to the windows and doors of your home to prevent a fire from entering your home. This is particularly useful when you are in a bush or grass fire area.

Have the heaters checked

The worst offenders are fuel heating. If these are not cleaned regularly, the build-up of unburned fuel can cause a fire. It can start in your chimney, but it can easily spread anywhere.

In addition, partially blocked solid fuel heaters increase the amount of deadly carbon monoxide released into your home. It’s as bad as fire.

Have them cleaned and serviced at least once a year.

Never leave the kitchen unattended

When you cook, you shouldn’t even leave the kitchen for a minute. It can take seconds for a towel to ignite near a flame and start a major fire. If you have to leave the kitchen, turn everything off on the stove. It is better to take a few minutes more time to prepare food than a fire or other accident.

Be careful with candles

Candles are great for the ambience and a little romance. By the way, they are also a naked flame and can start a fire.

If you use candles, make sure that they are in suitable holders. You have a fire extinguisher nearby and never leave it unattended.

To have a plan

It won’t prevent a fire, but it will help you get out if you have one. Having a plan and practicing it regularly means that every member of the household knows what to do in the event of a fire. That can make the difference between life and death.
