Decoration ideas for a kitchen with breakfast bar

We all have to eat. It is a need that cannot be avoided, which is why a kitchen is essential in every home. However, we have refined the palate so that eating is also a way of enjoying life, and the spaces in which we prepare the dishes have become exemplary works of art. We will likely be living in the kitchen for many hours, so this should give us the best possible environment. For example, if you have a kitchen with a breakfast bar, you can start an excellent day by decorating.

Although many call them breakfast bars, they serve every meal of the day, so we’ll end up using them more than it seems. Although they don’t replace a dining room, the kitchen bars are more cozy for family moments because they’re always available and the kitchen is nearby.

A breakfast bar in the kitchen allows us to save space in furniture and create an elegant separation between the home environments. In contrast to a wall, in this area we can eat snacks or even use them as an auxiliary shelf for the preparation of dishes.

Since we will be spending much of our day on this countertop, it would be fair to decorate it so that we can enjoy our stay. That is why today we bring you some ideas for kitchen bars that all your neighbors will envy.

These ideas can be applied to multiple types of countertops or island bars and even combined. So the limit is in our imagination.

Preliminary considerations for a kitchen with a breakfast bar

Island style – an independent space

A breakfast island bar is a classic option if we want to install more appliances or kitchen utensils. Some only build a table, while others use the space to make additional shelves. This unit requires a considerable space in the middle of the kitchen so that people can continue to move.

Peninsula style – the continuation of the countertops

In contrast to a breakfast bar on a kitchen island, they are embedded in a wall in the peninsula style, or if this is not the case, they are the continuation of the worktop. They do not occupy a central space in the kitchen, so they are perfect for small spaces, with the only disadvantage that we can only sit on three sides.

Peninsula-style bars are usually U- or L-shaped kitchens, depending on the architectural requirements.

If we don’t have the budget to integrate the breakfast bar into the kitchen furniture, we can always buy a removable worktop.

It all depends on the room

In addition to the budget, it is obvious that we have to consider the space available. If we have a large kitchen, it is best to choose the breakfast island. This is particularly attractive in studio apartments because it gives the feeling of having a more spacious home.

What is the best kitchen bar design in my case?

Although there are two basic ways to incorporate a breakfast bar on the countertop, our customization options are much broader. We have to decide which material we use for its construction, whether it is a level, whether it is used for devices such as sinks or whether it has shelves.

From a designer’s point of view, the first thing we should consider is that the bar cannot hinder the step when walking. After that, a pattern is suggested that does not deviate from the general design of the kitchen or house and corresponds to what we already have.

Try to choose simple furniture and discard all unnecessary angles as the vertical space in kitchen bars is much more important. The bar must not be overloaded with shelves or accessories. A minimalist alternative is hanging furniture for plates and glasses.

The building materials are very different, from wood and plywood to metal sheets, stone or crystals. You can contrast the rest of your kitchen with a different shade or keep the set uniform.

Ideas for decorating your kitchen breakfast bar

Complete a corner

Sometimes the kitchen, even though it is continuous, has a small partition. In this corner we can install some cupboards so that we can place a couple of chairs or stools on the other side of the wall.

Simply illuminate the room

A kitchen with a breakfast bar can get a different look simply by installing some lights on it. Pendant lights are most commonly used because they are easy to install, can be used on island or peninsula poles, and are available in various shapes and materials.

Complements our L-shaped kitchen

For reasons of space, many kitchens are distributed in an L-shape and only occupy two walls for all appliances. In these cases, we can install a kitchen island bar table to make the atmosphere more cozy.

Since we already have all the necessary equipment in the main building of the kitchen, this central table can only be used to enjoy meals.

As if it were a room

Just because it’s in the kitchen doesn’t mean we’re going to neglect it. Our bar can be accompanied by decorative elements as if it were the dining table. Some of the classic options are fruit bowls, centerpieces, small tablecloths, flowers, etc.

We can’t go wrong with wood

Not only classic or renaissance style kitchens go well with wooden ornaments. In general, the use of this universal material makes every place take on a warmer and more elegant style.

With the right design, we can also make modern furniture out of wood, although these are mostly used for rustic surfaces. A popular trend is the use of previously treated barn-style wood.

Make everything happy with the use of colors

To have positive energies throughout the day, it is best to start with a happy breakfast. That is why our breakfast bar kitchen should have a range of colors and ornaments that encourage us.

Try to make the colors as clear and happy as possible. The pastel tones help you to wake up slowly and not abruptly and to set meals apart from the other kitchen.

There are also options for U-shaped kitchens

The best option for U-shaped kitchens is simply to continue building the shelves and extending the work area a little longer.

Since these are already embedded in three of the four walls of the room, we have to leave the central area completely free so that we do not interrupt the traffic.

The bar can preferably be constructed in two ways: the first is when we turn the table so that the kitchen creates a kind of O and leaves enough space for access; or continue the countertop in a straight line while maintaining the continuity of the surface that comes after the stove.

Every house needs natural light

Although artificial light can complement the rooms, natural light is always the most pleasant option to lighten the rooms. Especially in the kitchen, because there is nothing better than having breakfast while the soft and fresh sun rays come in.

Choose suitable chairs

Depending on the amount of use we give our kitchen bar, it may be a good idea to buy sturdy stools or chairs. When we use this bar for eating, it is best to buy stools that require little maintenance, e.g. B. those with wood, leather or metal seats. The other alternative is that they have pillows that we can easily replace if they get damaged.

As far as the design area is concerned, the stools can be a little more extravagant, as they complement the countertop breakfast. You can even use it as a contrast element and choose wooden stools if your kitchen is mostly made of metal.

Metal is the modern choice

If you want a modern kitchen with a breakfast bar, it is best to use metal as the main material.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s wrought iron details or just small wrappings in certain areas: every metal detail (especially stainless steel) makes your kitchen look modern. Steel devices should not be missing in this decorative idea.
